The Philosophy Behind Vegetarianism

It may seem odd that in a diet that tells you that you are NOT getting enough protein, that anyone would tell you to become a vegetarian!

Yet that is exactly what I am suggesting, and there are a number of reasons behind it.

Foremost is for health reasons. The Zone diet works at the hormonal level. These are not just the estrogen and testosteron hormones that everyone knows about, but there are other hormones wandering around in your body that effect the way that your body acts and reacts. One of the primary ones is ADRENALIN which is the hormone that gives you instant energy. The "Fight or Flight" response in a fearful situation is when your body will produce that hormone. Problem is, animals have the same response, and in a slaughterhouse, their blood is fairly "boiling" as one writer put it. When they are killed, the hormone is still in the blood. Taking in the animal hormone of adrenaline is one reason that going on a high protein diet of animal meat will give you an elevated sense of energy. Going OFF meat you may find a few days that you won't feel as energetic, but then as your NORMAL hormone level returns, the energy will as well.

You may be aware that in order to produce one pound of animal protein, a cow has to consume 6 pounds of grain. The sad fact is that the most NUTRITIOUS portions of that grain, when left to the consumer, are then stripped away from the grain in order to give us our children's cereal, our breakfast bagels, our French Bread and our pasta. Is it any wonder that we are "carb sensitive" after years of mainlining refined grains and sugars?

40,000 children starve to death every year. Refined grains may be making YOU fat, but lack of any grain is causing them to die. Our cows, sheep, pigs and chickens eat better than all the 3rd world countries children do.

You can feed 6 vegetarians on the same amount of land as it would take to support 1 meat eater--and the methane gas produced from the animals feeding on that land are part of the enormous problem in our world's Green House Effect.

Meat Inspectors are more often than not vegetarians.

We have made ourselves SICK and whacked out our body's ability to respond to food in a normal way, because the food we have been feeding it is NOT NORMAL. Hence, a diet to normalize it, a way to balance the intake of the carbs, proteins and fats we take in so that our body does not over-react. But to REALLY heal our bodies, we want the BEST medicine possible, and the BEST medicine is FOOD that is as close to natural as wel can find. Any refined white food (flour, sugar and white rice) should be looked at for the poisons they are. Yes, it is SAD that they taste so good, but so do fresh strawberries, juicy watermelon, green beans and fresh steamed edamame beans! It is a matter of educating the palate all over again.

I know that after telling you about NATURAL FOODS that you can come back to me as a vegetarian Zoner and say "But vegetarian meat substitutes are NOT NATURAL--they are refined!" No, they are EXTRACTED. Instead of taking the best parts of the grain or soybean or the nuts and throwing them away, we are taking the best parts and throwing out the starches, the fast acting, high glycemic responding carbohydrates that got us into this hyperinsulenimia in the first place.

So the philosophy behind this is HEALING. How to do it? Let's talk more. Even meat eaters can cut back on their consumption of meat a bit and benefit from other protein sources besides meat. And the planet will respond well for it too.
